JULIA SCOTT
Agriculture and Rural / Performance Sport / Education / SME – Commercial and Employment.
Using her quick witted, sensible and slightly rural style, Julia specialises in disputes, negotiations and facilitated discussions. Her pragmatic approach to mediation is honed by decades as a highly successful operator across multiple sectors, producing practical outcomes that are infinitely more satisfying than public facing litigation or arbitration processes.
Initially qualifying as a USPTA Elite Tennis Coach, Julia’s career spanned across sporting, agricultural and education sectors. She established numerous enterprises, governed multi-million dollar assets, directed teams in excess of 100, chaired boards, led sensitive contract negotiations and consulted at a national level.
Julia’s innate aptitude for connecting and supporting people during their most challenging times was the catalyst for her advancement to becoming a specialist performance Coach Developer for Tennis NZ and Tennis Australia. People centred competencies are Julia’s strength, underpinning her commercial business coach, board chair and governance mentoring. She takes immense satisfaction in championing people.
Delivering HP corporate contracts across Australasia contrasted with over 30 years farming multiple hill country sheep and beef properties alongside her husband, reflects Julia’s comfort moving between contexts. She places a premium on trust and risk mitigation, appreciating the importance of tailoring the mediation experience for all stakeholder needs. She easily frames complex business and interpersonal disputes so parties are engaged and receptive.
Julia is cognisant of legal and financial reporting obligations. Her experience in governance and chair roles includes Otago Presbyterian Girls College Board of Governors Inc, Chair of Tennis Coaches NZ and Chair of the Columba College School Board along with company directorships in private commercial property development, agricultural operations and contract consulting in NZ and Australia.
Having led extensive disciplinary investigations and facilitated outcomes, she has an empathetic and considered approach to matters, ensuring ethical integrity and proper process is at the centre of conversations while appreciating mediation can require tough and testing decisions.
Julia is also open to the co-mediation model with her colleagues, believing this puts all sides in much stronger positions for resolution. She welcomes opportunities to work together undaunted by difficult circumstances or challenging material and can be contacted at no obligation as detailed below.
