CAMERON LAWES: Dispute resolution – problem solving – has been at the heart of Cameron’s professional life for over three decades.

For many of those years he has viewed mediation as a compelling pathway to cost effective and timely resolution of disputes – even those that seem too problematic to solve.

Cameron is a barrister sole with a nationwide practice accepting instructions in the higher courts of New Zealand. He is a founding member of Resolution Chambers with a busy practice centred on complex commercial litigation disputes.

He is also a university law lecturer teaching civil and commercial litigation to final year law students.

Cameron is dual qualified in NZ and the UK. He spent 15 years in London handling high profile commercial litigation. He first worked for a High Court Judge at the Royal Courts of Justice in London. He then moved into private practice where he was a partner for 10 years, rising to become a senior equity partner in the London office of a top international law firm.

As well as running a full time litigation practice, Cameron also held senior management roles in his law firm.

Whilst Cameron’s courtroom experience in both hemispheres means he understands that some disputes may end up in a courtroom he strives to find better solutions through mediation, whenever possible. He has been attending mediations since the late 1990’s.

As well as his legal practice and university lecturing, Cameron is also a board level director for several companies in the food, medical technology, and motorsport sectors.

Outside of work Cameron enjoys climbing mountains, running marathons and desert ultramarathons and collecting and racing motorcars – and he is presently learning to fly.

Like many budding writers he also maintains his own Substack where you can find his views on a range of different topics.
